In the opus of fine dining, every element plays a vital note, building towards a crescendo of gastronomic delight. At Stenhus, the anticipation began on a high octave, drawing me into the intricate composition of its tasting menu, harmonized with carefully selected wines.The overture, comprising the initial courses, sang a melodious tune of culinary mastery, invoking a rhapsody of flavors and sensations. Yet, as the beef course took center stage, it struck a discordant chord. Its overcooked and toughened texture was reminiscent of a missed beat in an otherwise captivating symphony.The ambient backdrop, pivotal to this orchestration, proved jarringly out of tune. What could have been a refined ensemble of sounds was, instead, a cacophony of popular hits awkwardly reimagined in bossa nova and smooth jazz. The attempt, although novel, lacked the sophistication and grace befitting such an illustrious establishment.Amidst these dissonant notes, the maestro of the evening, our host, stood out. His attentive and professional demeanor gracefully conducted our experience, guiding us with finesse and poise.When the veal, poised as the penultimate act, made its entrance, my palate was still overshadowed by the beef’s misstep, compelling a melancholic adagio retreat from the culinary stage. The dessert, though elegantly presented, awaited its audience in vain.The wine pairing, envisioned as a melodious accompaniment, was more a shrill piccolo than a rich cello, echoing more of vinegar’s sharpness than the anticipated mellifluous undertones.In closing, the Stenhus performance was a blend of enchanting high notes and jarring dissonances. The service, particularly from our host, served as the evening’s saving grace, a virtuoso amidst a chorus of varied talents.

We had a lovely dinner as a couple here. Our waiter Aleksei recommended us the Tasting Menu, which included a 5 course meal. The dishes were very nice from both an aesthetical and culinary perspective. We also had the different wines which were perfectly paired with each course. Although normally in a restaurant almost nobody pays particular attention to the bread and butter served before meals, the selection of bread (housemade, rye bread and onion bread with beetroot and truffle butter) was also a highlight (which apparently you can also buy separately as a loaf if you like). We noticed that both our waiter and his female colleague were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the food and pairings and also attentive throughout the whole evening to make sure that every guest has a lovely evening. The setting in the restaurant was cozy, the design tasteful and everything very clean.

Incredibly delicious restaurant. The risotto and beef were just great. This is one of those restaurants where you eat everything on your plate. Large selection of dishes, friendly staff, pleasant music) The kitchen is beyond praise, amazing presentations!

Põnevaim menüü, mida ma Tallinnas näinud olen. Toidu asemel valid endale maali. Väga huvitav kogemus!Ainus pettumus oli teenindus, kuna kelneri naljad ja üleüldine käitumine oli üsna ebaviisakas.

My husband and I (from the US) were visiting Tallinn for one night and went here expecting an upscale, modern take on Northern European cuisine. We were completely blown away with all of our expectations surpassed. The food was exquisite, full of well balanced and creative dishes. The service was outstanding and the ambience in the cellar dining room was perfect for what the proprietors were trying to do. Furthermore, the price point is incredibly reasonable. I’ve eaten in Michelin-starred restaurants and Stenhus met that caliber. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone in Tallinn and will absolutely come here again the next time we visit.

Such an atmospheric place, especially for a date, fireplace and old stones making a good impact on this. Service was incredibly good, food was graceful and evening went smoothly.

White linnen restaurant with waiters below 21 years old. Great food! Nice plates and good tastes. The chef knows how to make great dishes. Unfortunately the chain from the ideas to the guest is not flawless. Our last dish came out cold and dry, but would have been excellent with adequate timing.The wine pairing was dubious. A few of the pairings was fantastic, and others where far below the level we paid for.One in our group couldn't drink red wine, and they could not offer a wine package to the degustation Menu. When asking for an alternative, the question from the waiter was about price of the wine not about what would match the menu.They gave us expectations from the prices, presentation and style that they didn't deliver.

Very lovely meal. Simple and elegant menu. More your $$$$ meal but you get gastronomy in your plate. Wine prices are a bit excessive. Food wise was pure pleasure. And you have the added charm of being in a cosy cellar of a historical building that is also one of the best hotels in Tallinn. A boutique hotel on top of it.
