I had to travel past here for family reasons, the whole experience was incredibly AWFUL.The lady doing my customs control laughed at me the whole time, so unprofessional!!!If you are trying to enter the russian federation, be ready to wait for hours and hours, if you are Ukrainian, even worse.On the other hand, leaving Russia appeared easier, but for sure they could learn how to smile, they always look like they are forced to work there....AND PLEASE, LEARN ENGLISH, IT'S A FRICKING CUSTOMS!!!

Long queues, But the lovely chap holding an AK and directing us where to go complimented our VAZ-21013 so that calmed my nerves

единственное место в Европе, где за выезд из неё требуют денег в принудительном порядке, что противоречит всем возможным правам свободного перемещения. так что въезжать сюдой можно, выезжать - не рекомендую. если вы едете из Прибалтики в Россию - лучше выезжать через Латвию, там хотя бы бесплатно.

It really depends wether you are leaving or entering Russia. In the first case, you’ll most likely cross the border without any troubles for mere 20-30 minutes. Both the passport control and customs on the “exit” side are extremely nice, helpful lenient + there are virtually no queues on the “exit” side. However, if you are entering the territory of Russian Federation, be ready to face exhaustingly long queues and harassment from the Russian border service testing your patience and possibly trying to convince you for a bribe. NEVER argue with them or debate about your legal rights — just comply and play along as long as you are not admitting anything the can detain you for.
